| Greg
Murray Biography Born
in Waycross, Georgia on March 23, 1964, to Jesse and Eloise Lambert Murray,
Greg Murray surprised his family by picking up the trumpet at an early age and
teaching himself to play. Though the majority of his family came from Folkston,
GA, he attended Glynn County Schools and was a 1982 graduate of Brunswick High
School.
Mildred
Eakes Lambert, Greg's maternal grandmother, was a Church of God of Prophecy minister.
Though his parents never favored church attendance, Greg grew close to his grandparents
and accompanied Mildred and his grandfather, Samuel, to church during his formative
years. He credits them for bringing him up in a Christian environment.
Greg
excelled in middle and high school band at Glynn County Schools, becoming
an accomplished trumpet player. In 1982, he was selected for the Georgia Governors
Honors Program in Music and, that same year, was chosen as first trumpet for the
World Champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corp located in Concord, California.
Greg toured with the Corp during the summer of 1982, allowing him the opportunity
to study with some of the best educators and trumpet players in the world. Greg
graduated with Honors from Gupton-Jones College in Atlanta, Georgia with a
degree in Mortuary Science. While employed in the funeral profession, he continued
to become more and more proficient on the trumpet, flugelhorn and piccolo trumpet,
not yet sure in which direction his musical abilities would lead. Little did he
know how important his music and testimony would become.
In
the early 1990s, Greg received God's Call and was inspired to create his own
concert ministry entitled "Trumpet Praise Ministries." His mission became
spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through song to the lost all over the world.
Currently, Greg is incorporating the ancient Hebrew instrument, the Shofar, into
his ministry's program as well as praise and worship, beloved hymns and contemporary
selections that appeal to a varied audience. Emphasizing
that God gave him the talent to play musical instruments and giving Him all
the glory, Greg states, "In these uncertain times of war and chaos, concerts
are a way of channeling God's love and compassion to a hurting world. Music is
an international language, a way of lifting up the name of Jesus Christ that reaches
all ages, races and creeds."
In 2007, Greg released
two inspirational CDs. The first, called Trumpet Praise includes
both hymns and patriotic songs. The second, titled, God Bless America,
is a patriotic CD paying tribute to all active military personnel and veterans. Greg
is currently in the studio working on a Christmas project to be released in
November.
